Laura Cordolcini
Laura, a PhD student at the University of Milan-Bicocca in Italy, is currently undertaking a student placement at ISEY. During her time at ISEY, her objective is to acquire knowledge of mother-infant synchrony across multiple domains, including heart rate, brain signals, and behaviour. This will allow her to integrate new skills and insights into her ongoing PhD project, which focuses on the impact of various claimed and potential risk factors, such as sex chromosome trisomies and positive newborn screening results, on the mental and developmental well-being of mothers and infants, as well as on their relationship.
Before beginning her doctoral research, Laura studied Clinical and Neuropsychology in Milan. She then completed a year-long internship at the Child Psychopathology Lab and BabyLab of the Scientific Institute Eugenio Medea (Lecco, Italy), where she gained foundational knowledge of psychological research on language and learning disorders, autism, and ADHD. Following her internship, she served as an assistant researcher at the 0-3 Centre for the At-Risk Infant in the same institute, where she learned research methodologies and their application to the mother-infant relationship in cases of both typical and atypical developmental trajectories during early infancy.
In the future, Laura plans to pursue a career in both experimental and applied research, with the goal of developing and implementing new knowledge and interventions for children with developmental risks and their families.
