Miles Thomas
Dr Miles Thomas is an HCPC registered Educational Psychologist and Research Director of the Professional Doctorate in Educational Psychology at UEL. He gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Bath and taught in the UK and Spain. He qualified as an Educational Psychologist in 1999 and went on to complete his Doctorate in Educational Psychology at UEL. He has worked in Local Authority Educational Psychology Teams delivering psychological support to children, young people, families, schools, early years providers and higher education settings for over 20 years. Much of this was as a Senior Specialist Psychologist for Social Emotional and Mental Health with strategic responsibilities for service development. He became an Academic Tutor in Educational Psychology in 2007 and went on to become Programme Director of the highly regarded Professional Training course for Educational Psychologists at UEL. He has supervised over 40 Doctorates to completion and published papers on topics such as Nurture Groups in Secondary Schools, the Mental Health and Wellbeing of Refugee Children and Mental Health Provision in Secondary Schools during the Covid-19 Pandemic. He co-authored the Handbook of Solution Focussed Brief Therapy and is Co-Editor of Educational Psychology Research and Practice (EPRAP) | University of East London. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Associate Fellow of the British Psychology Society.
